A year later...

One year ago today, Danny and I released the Regretting Almost Everything (Concept Album) starring Beth Leavel and Jeff Blumenkrantz. Was the album a success? Where did it get us? Was it worth the time, effort and cost? What have we learned?

I get bored at the thought of answering these questions. So how about this:

As artists and individuals, where are we now, and where were we then? What’s happened in the last year?

A year ago, Danny was living with unremitting pain caused by an orthopedic issue and under financial stress because, well…he’s a working artist. Today, he’s post-op, on his way to living pain free — we hope — and working full-time in the MT music industry. Lauren has just completed the first draft of a musical with a new and wonderful collaborator and…is actually in the same position she was a year ago. (Mostly) done with the creative part and once again confronting moving into “sales,” which she DETESTS.

Danny and I haven’t written anything new together. Instead, we’ve focused on releasing music that already exists. And we plan to keep doing that. I suppose in some ways we’ve both moved on. But not from each other. We’re currently “collaborating” on a June production of a song cycle Danny’s writing with William Finn.

What’s next for us as a writing team? A return to Mimosa? I don’t know. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds…
